Though I am German, French food has always played a big role in my life. I grew up in a part of Germany only minutes away from the French border, where both language and culinary traditions mix and mingle in the most special, sometimes peculiar way. Having spent almost three years in and around Paris, I recently returned to Munich, Germany, with my family, in our bags all the French goodies (crème de marrons! Foie gras!) I was afraid of not easily finding here, in our heads and hearts fond memories of France, many if not most of them linked to food.
While our time in France has come to an end, the cooking continues: French, but also German, favorites that I love to cook for my family of four. When I started this blog around four years ago and was looking for a title, “mamangerie” came to mind, a fusion of the French words maman, mummy, and manger, to eat. This little play of words seemed to sum up best the obvious influences in my cooking, and also referred to my favorite every day ritual: sharing a home cooked meal `en famille`, all the family around one big table – that´s simply the best part of my day.
